This documentary features four men who spent decades in prison for crimes they did not commit before being exonerated. Their legal cases were replete with police and prosecutor misconduct including physical and mental coercion, suppressed exculpatory evidence, and racism. But the flaws in their legal cases (and our system of justice) is not the focus of the film. When I met these men and got to know them, what I found most striking was their lack of anger and bitterness. Somehow, each found a guiding light of hope and forgiveness that enabled him to endure grave injustice and even triumph over it. This film is about the resilience of the human spirit, and how to live free.
